Settling In

At this point I’m largely settled in to the two three bedroom apartment I’m sharing with three other people out here in Maryland. (An empty mystery room having been converted into a third bedroom by moving one of the beds into it.) Not a whole lot to do until the internship starts up on Tuesday.

A few quick observations:

  • I brought way too much stuff up with me. Lots of stuff I kind-of-might-need-but-probably-won’t is neatly stashed away in boxes in the corner of my bedroom.
  • One of the things I should’ve brought but didn’t is some decent cooking equipment. The stuff supplied with the apartment is barely sufficient.
  • The part of the drive from Ohio out to here was quite different from the trips between St. Louis and West Lafayette. Instead of endless soul-sucking corn fields and, um, corn fields, you have hilly or even mountainous tree-covered terrain. It makes for a much more interesting drive. Plus, I got to drive through a tunnel for the first time ever. We won’t even mention demolishing the farthest-east-I’ve-ever-driven record.

  1. When you come back for Wes&Sarah’s wedding do you want me to bring down some of your state of the art cooking appliances? You can trade me for some of your boxes-sitting-in-corners. Just send me an IM if you so desire such a trade.

  2. It’s more stuff than I care to try to fly back and forth with, and driving is out of the question. I’ll just have to make do for the next two and a half months.

  3. First tunnel? Ever? Psh.
