Maybe I won’t be participating in NaNoWriMo this year after all.

Last year, I didn’t have all that much trouble completing NaNoWriMo, but this year’s shaped up differently. I’ve got a lot more work that I need to do. Between tests, projects, homework, research, my history paper, applying to grad school, and everything else, I don’t think I can spare the hour-and-a-half to two hours a day it’d take to write up a NaNoWriMo entry.

I kind of knew it all along, though I didn’t really want to admit it. I’ve already been suffering from a lack of free time, and NaNoWriMo certainly wouldn’t help that. I’ve been neglecting Jambox for far too long, and I’d have no chance of working on it at all any more. Especially now that I’ve been trying to use it more, there’s a lot more changes I want to make. And frankly, I’d get more out of that then writing yet another 50,000 word not-quite-a-novel.

It may sound like I’m just looking for excuses for not having to write, and to some degree, that’s true. It’s not like I don’t have an idea for a story. It’s more that I don’t have the resources I’d need to give it the attention it deserves, or at least produce something worth the effort I’d be putting into it.

Last year, the only casualty of NaNoWriMo was having no time to participate in the annual /dev/null/nethack Tournament. But the annoyances today working on the first part of our current networking project (the easiest of the three parts by far) confirmed that more pressing things would suffer this year.

But continuing to explain or justify my decision is only going to take time away from reading for my history paper, so I’ll tie things off here.

It’s a pity that you won’t be participating in the NaNoWriMo…but i understand where you’re coming from. I had to go to school today..A SUNDAY!! The open house…had to do mock classes and do work…gaah! 2. Does it look like I have a printer on hand that would be suitable for 100+ pages? [checks under desk] No, doesn’t look like it.
